One month out today. Don’t feel quite the thing, the hot weather is getting a little too much for me. Capt. stands it wonderfully. Thermometer 89, distance 107 miles.

I was very much amused this morning with dog Charley and the goat. He wanted to play with her, but when he approached her she would run at him to butt him while Charley jumped back and looked at her in amazement – he could not seem to understand it. Weather getting hotter all the time. Distance to noon 81 miles.
Calm and very hot, regular Fourth of July weather. I am just as tho I came out of a vapour bath. The current has moved us along about 41 miles.
Still remained calm, husband’s patience almost exhausted. Nothing for it but fan ourselves and read. Out on deck this even for an hour the air warm still pleasanter than being below in the cabin. Distance 52 miles. Very slow work.
Calm again all night and morn. This afternoon a little improvement so hope to have a breeze soon. Distance to noon 66 miles.
Had a sheep killed on Saturday – it was excellent. The mariners got half of it. I presume they are glad when Sund comes around, to get their fresh mess, very little satisfies me this hot weather. It has been pouring the last two hours so we shall have another good supply of water.
6 p.m. No going on deck tonight. Capt calls this the “Sailors’ Doldrums”, nothing but calms and heavy rains. I should say it is well named.
Considerable cooler today, some wind but a head still it is better than a calm. Ther.81, dist 56. Done a good day’s work.
Very busily engaged all day turning out the trunks or contents. After so much rain everything in sight mildewed, so concluded it would be well to look over things. Find only one pair of gloves fit to wear, boots all mouldy and some other things, but nothing very serious. Distance 62, we are not going our course, still it is better than a calm.
Fine weather, cooler the last two days. Therm81, distance 127 miles.
